Grand Boulevard Wins State-Level APA Award

Last May, the Grand Boulevard Initiative received the Distinguished Leadership Award of Excellence from the Northern California chapter of the American Planning Association (APA). The Initiative has now gone on to win the state-level award from the California chapter of APA! The State award will be announced at the APA California 2010 Conference. Congratulations to all Grand Boulevard member agencies and staff!

Vision for Hillsdale Station Area Plan Takes Form

hillsdaleThe City of San Mateo’s Hillsdale Station Area Plan held its second Community Workshop on June 30 at the San Mateo Senior Center.  About 43 community members, elected and appointed officials, stakeholders, and community based organization members attended the workshop that allowed small groups to form their own ideas and visions for the area.  This second of three workshops held in 2010 was primarily a hands-on interactive workshop with attendees working in small groups to determine their preferred alternative by ‘mixing and matching’ from two alternatives presented for review.

Final Grand Boulevard Multimodal Transportation Corridor Plan Released

The final version of the Grand Boulevard Multimodal Transportation Corridor Plan has been completed and is available online.  The goal of the Corridor Plan is to facilitate development of a better match for land use and transportation on the El Camino Real Corridor from Daly City to San Jose’s Diridon Station in support of smart growth.  The plan is intended guide the transformation of El Camino Real into a pedestrian and transit friendly, high-performing multimodal arterial where all modes of transportation move efficiently and safely.

Grand Boulevard Initiative recipient of a 2010 APA California Northern Planning Award

2010awardslogoCongratulations! The Grand Boulevard Initiative has been selected to receive the 2010 Distinguished Leadership: Organization Award. These awards are presented to "an organization whose efforts have contributed to elevating planning principles, creating greater awareness of the value of planning, and improving the quality of life in one or more communities."

Grand Boulevard Initiative Awards - 2009/2010

The second biennial Grand Boulevard Initiative Awards program gives awards to planned and recently completed projects and public agency plans that exemplify the Guiding Principles.

The three different award categories are:

  • Signature: Projects in the planning stage (private or public) that embody the Guiding Principles.
  • Vanguard: Projects (private or public) that recently have been completed and that embody the Guiding Principles.
  • Visionary: Plans by GBI member agencies that embody the Guiding Principles.

The Grand Boulevard Initiative recently launched on online interactive map of projects currently underway or recently completed along Mission St/El Camino Real/The Alameda in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The file can be viewed in Google Maps by clicking here.

The projects can be viewed in Google Earth by clicking here to download the file. The Google Earth software can be downloaded free at http://earth.google.com.
