tiger 2 logoThe Grand Boulevard Initiative recently won a $1.1 million federal TIGER II Planning grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as a $1.7 million grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The GBI's TIGER II application was one of only 33 successful planning applications out of hundreds and only 3% of the funding that was requested by all TIGER II applicants was awarded. El Camino's Potential for Smart Growth Highlighted in New Report

greenbeltallianceGreenbelt Alliance, a regional leader in growth and development issues, has named El Camino Real as a “Smart Spot” for growth in its new publication, Grow Smart Bay Area (PDF, 6.7MB). The initiative lays out a vision, backed by intensive research, for how Bay Area cities and towns can accommodate a growing population with compact development in existing neighborhoods, to create more vibrant, sustainable communities.

The report describes how four-fifths of the Bay Area’s growth can occur in seven “smart spots,” especially along transportation corridors—from El Camino Real to the North Bay’s new train—where new homes and jobs are a natural fit. El Camino Real has been identified as capable of accommodating 14% of both housing and jobs growth for the Bay Area. For more information, visit
